Almost 200 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Jamaica on Thursday as the country continues to grapple with the highly transmissible Omicron BA.2 variant. The Ministry of Health says 191 cases of the virus were confirmed from 2,241 samples. This resulted in a positivity rate of 18.4 per cent. Hospitalisations from COVID-19 have inched up to 43. Two of those patients are in critical condition. At the same time, a 72-year-old man from St. Catherine is the latest to die from the coronavirus. The death toll now stands at 2,973. Four more deaths are being investigated by the Health Ministry.
