T&T’s Bre­ana Stampfli made her ex­it in the In­ter­na­tion­al Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion Pro Cir­cuit World Ten­nis Tour 15s Cha­co­nia Clas­sic at the quar­ter­fi­nal stage, 5-7, 3-6 at the Na­tion­al Rack­et Cen­tre, Or­ange Grove Road, Tacariguaon Fri­day.

The 24-year-old Stampfli, a qual­i­fi­er raced in­to a 2-0 games lead in the first set against the third-seed­ed Lex­ie Stevens of Hol­land.

How­ev­er, Stevens won three of the next four games to lev­el up the set at 3-3, be­fore Stampfli won the next two games to move to with­in a first set win at 5-3 ahead.

But once again, the T&T ace failed to press home her ad­van­tage as Stevens the next four games, starv­ing off a first set loss, to go one-up with a 7-5 win.

The sec­ond set was al­so a see-saw bat­tle most of the way, with Stampfli again rac­ing in­to a 2-0 lead be­fore Stevens won the next three games

Stampfli then drew lev­el at 3-3, but Stevens then stepped up her game an­oth­er lev­el and won the next three games and the set, 6-3 to seal her pas­sage to the fi­nal four

Stevens will now face sec­ond-ranked Colom­bian Yu­liana Lizara­zo who over­came Venezue­lan Na­dia Echev­er­ria Alam, 6-3, 6-4 in their quar­ter­fi­nal en­counter

In the oth­er semi­fi­nals, top-seed­ed Al­ice Gillan of Great Britain comes up against fourth-ranked Ak­i­lah James of USA af­ter they de­feat­ed USA’s Amy Ka­plan 6-4, 6-3 and Switzer­land’s Pauline Wuar­in 6-3, 6-0, in their last-eight match-ups re­spec­tive­ly

Last night in the dou­bles semi­fi­nals, Poland’s Ol­ga Broz­da and Pauli­na Jas­r­rzeb­s­ka came up against Lizara­zo and Cana­da’s Maria Tanas­es­cu while Echev­er­ria com­bined with USA’s Sabas­tiani Leon to meet Es­ton­ian Maileen Nu­u­di and Stevens for places in the ti­tle match

On Thurs­day night, in an all-T&T women’s quar­ter­fi­nal Stampfli out­classed 41-year-old fel­low T&T An­neliese Rose 6-2, 6-1 while third-ranked Stevens pow­ered past Jas­trzeb­s­ka 6-1, 6-0

In oth­er sec­ond-round match­es, top-ranked Gillan of Great Britain de­feat­ed Leon 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2; Ka­plan whipped Hol­land’s Iris Ver­weij 6-1, 6-1; James hum­bled coun­try­woman Stephanie Kent 6-4, 6-1; Wuar­in brushed aside Cana­da’s Keira Black­beard 6-2, 6-1; Alam oust­ed USA’s Dy­lan Cline 6-3, 6-1 and Lizara­zo top­pled USA’s Tri­cia Mar, 6-2, 6-3.
