Wounding Charge Withdrawn Against Woman Accused Of Hitting PM Ralph Gonsalves In The Head

The prosecution in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has withdrawn the wounding charge against Annamay Lewis, who was accused of hitting Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves in the head on August 5 during a protest in Kingstown.   Crown Counsel Renee Simmons on Wednesday withdrew the charge when the matter came up for trial.   This means that Miss Lewis, a 56-year-old vendor, will only be tried on a charge that on August 5 she threw missiles to the danger of persons who were present.   Miss Simmons told the court she was not ready for trial in the remaining matter and asked for an adjournment.   Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett set the trial for January 4 next year.
