Since the lockdown, many of the Maracas vendors have had do other things to make a living

The owners of Popular Maracas spot, Uncle Sam and Sons Bake and Shark were seen painting and sprucing up their location with anticipation that on Saturday, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley would reopen the beaches

«Hearing word that the government is going to open the beach and other avenues in the country I feel proud I feel great about it. So immediately what I kick into action as you can see start doing renovations and some preparations and preparing my place for that grand opening», Micheal Pierre, owner of the popular eatery said.

Since the lockdown, many of the Maracas vendors have had do other things to make a living.

«Out of evil cometh good, a lot of us would have turned to different aspects and do different things and from the minute that lockdown came I started to think ahead,» he said

«I diversify and opened up a grocery that has my business surviving today and this provided for many on the North Coast and those coming to the area.»

But vendor Suchan Singh said things have been bad.

He said some days he could count the number of customers he sees.

He said he will welcome any move by the Government to remove the restrictions. He said he would finally be able to «make a proper living.»

Singh has already had to lay off workers and support them by delivering hampers to them

«I have a suggestion if they want to kind of control the congregation with the people coming together at the beach why not give the lifeguards the power to kind of keep the people apart just a suggestion and that may help», he said
