Officer Gladys Rosete responded to a crash in the 500 block of North Ventura Road about 7 p.m. Sunday and requested that one of the cars be towed because it was blocking the roadway, the Port Hueneme Police Department said. As the car was being loaded onto a tow truck’s flatbed, it rolled off and pinned Rosete beneath it, police said.

She was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries to the lower portion of her body

On Monday, Sgt. Eric Starna said Rosete was released late Sunday night and is now home resting and recovering from her injuries

“She’s in good spirits,” Starna said. “But she won’t be back on duty anytime soon.”

The Police Department is still investigating what caused the car to slide off the back of the tow truck
